We have great news for our customers who installed a new HVAC system last year! If you purchased and installed a new, energy efficient AC, heat pump, or furnace in 2012, you might be eligible for a tax credit in 2013. As of Jan. 2, 2013, the fiscal cliff avoidance legislation retroactively reinstated 25C tax credits for highly efficient HVAC systems. This means that our customers in Bethesda, MD and the surrounding areas can potentially qualify for up to $500 in federal tax credits for air conditioners, heat pumps, and furnaces they purchased and installed in 2012.

HVAC Systems that Qualify for 25C Federal Tax Credits in 2013

If you installed one of the following air conditioners in 2012, you qualify for a $300 tax credit:

  • Split system central air conditioners with 16 SEER and 13 EER
  • Packaged central air conditioners with 14 SEER and 13 EER

If you installed one of the following furnaces in 2012, you qualify for a $150 tax credit:

  • Natural gas furnaces with 95 AFUE or higher
  • Propane furnaces with 95 AFUE or higher
  • Oil furnaces with 95 AFUE or higher

In addition, boilers with 95 AFUE or higher also qualify for tax credits.

The following heat pumps qualify for a $300 tax credit:

  • Split system electric heat pumps with 8.5 HSPF, 12.5 EER, and 15 SEER
  • Packaged electric heat pumps with 8.0 HSPF, 12.0 EER, and 14 SEER
