It’s not news when we tell you that the past few years have been tough all across the country. Here in Montgomery County, good people are struggling to live in their homes with the dignity and safety they deserve. Maybe it’s a single mom in Rockville struggling to make ends meet or a widow in Germantown wondering how she’ll manage the upkeep on her house alone. Everyone’s story is different, but here in Maryland, we pull together and help each other out.
That’s why GAC Cooling & Heating (Gaithersburg Air Conditioning & Heating) supports Rebuilding Together Montgomery County. They know that sometimes because of age, economic hardship or health reasons, some people struggle to maintain their homes and live in warmth, safety and independence. Did you hear that first part, warmth? That’s where we come in.
As part of our work with Rebuilding Together Montgomery County, we perform maintenance work to HVAC systems at little to no cost and install systems for a reduced fee. We help 20 to 30 homeowners every year and provide service as needed. To us, it’s just extending what we do every day to helping our community. We truly believe we are a part of this community, and why shouldn’t we be the ones to help?
Plus, it just feels good to help, like when we were able to assist a kind elderly lady who lost her husband and hasn’t had the money to keep up with repairs on her HVAC system or when we worked with a disabled veteran to install his first-ever air conditioner.
Besides helping people stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer, Rebuilding Together Montgomery County also helps install ramps and other accessibility features, fix safety hazards and leaky roofs, or just help with yard work and maintenance. Sometimes, it’s the little things that make a big difference.
If you or someone you know is in need of a little extra help, make a nomination for Rebuilding Together Montgomery County through a church or temple, schools, neighborhood associations or through self-referral. Or we’d love to see you out at a site—volunteers and donations are always welcome.
If Rebuilding Together Montgomery County isn’t the organization for you, we still urge you to get out there and make a difference in your town. Whether you help a neighbor in Potomac or donate to a food pantry in Olney, we all owe it to one another to make our county the best place to live and work.
